This is a Thursday series in which I pause and acknowledge something big and important or something small and insignificant that has made me thankful. It is so important and incredibly refreshing to look at the positivity around us, when we are so often surrounded by negativity. Now, I know this might be unpopular opinion. And I will say this with some caveats, but: I LOVE SNOW. I hate driving in it, and I hate scraping the car, but ... there's something so lovely and peaceful about sitting inside and watching the snow fall. And there's nothing better than waking up, looking out the window, and seeing a coat of white glistening flakes coating everything, giving the world a fresh start.
I'm a big fan of new beginnings. I love New Year's resolutions, I make birthday resolutions, sometimes I even make new day resolutions -- I am constantly searching for ways to make life even better than it was the day before. Because life is really too short to live any other way, in my humble opinion... :)
In my mind, Donnie and I are totally the sort of couple who would see something great like snow and immediately go out and play in it. We are spontaneous, we are fun-loving... right? Only, we've never played in the snow before. So even though it was late (we didn't finish making our snowman until midnight!), we piled on extra layers of clothing, and ventured outside. It was the best.
We were inspired to make the snowman from the movie The Snowman which is a Christmas Eve tradition in Donnie's family. It is a simply beautiful movie, with lovely animation, and beautiful music that is unfortunately catchy, so don't watch it if you don't want the song stuck in your head... (LOO LOO LOO LOO LOOOO LOOOOOOOOO) The video is at the end of the post, after these photos of our late night out in the snow.
This is only the beginning of the gear I wore... Two pairs of leggings, jeans, two pairs of socks, two shirts... Then I added a sweatshirt, and my winter coat, and a hat, scarf, gloves... Oh, and plastic bags on my feet. (Donnie wore about the same amount of things...) This photo is silly and embarrassing, but I'm putting it all out there, right?
All bundled up and ready to go out in the snow!
And here is our beautiful guy, The Snowman!
If you just want to catch a glimpse of the snowman, you have my permission to skip ahead to 5:55 in the movie. But really, it's a delight, so if you have some free time this evening, I recommend coming back to watch the whole thing with a mug of tea, or a glass of wine.
What's making you thankful today? (I'd love to read what you're thankful for in the comments...)
