Life in Color: Layers

It’s time for another Life in Color post! Life in Color is a small group of female bloggers (predominately pro-photographers, but photo enthusiasts are also well represented) who are taking on a monthly challenge together. Each member posts once a month with a post and photos that fall into the category of “Life in Color.” It’s fairly wide open, so I’m excited to see what the other ladies come up with each month. Make sure you click through to the next blog in the circle, featured at the end of this post! Oh boy, I've really fallen off the blogging bandwagon lately! I just scrolled back to find the blurb about Life in Color from last month's blog post, and I only had to go back two entries -- blogging has just not been the priority around here. I'm so excited to go back to Champaign, IL for Donnie's winter break: I'm going to be spending lots of time analyzing how I'm running this business; rebranding Kinzie Ferguson Photography entirely; and making some big changes around here.

But in the meantime, it's time for another Life in Color post! Last post, I mentioned a little fun I had with the image I was shooting in this photo:

Well, I recently saw a buzzfeed thing about Photoshop, and though I already knew many of the tips -- when I saw #5, I thought it seemed like something fun to try.

So I layered my photo (above, on the left) with a photo I made my gal Hillary take of me (above, on the right). And then I couldn't help myself, and used this as a chance to play with some features and blending modes in Photoshop that I'm just not as familiar with as I'd like to be. Here are some results.

And this last one is not necessarily my favorite of the bunch, but it's a technique that I could see using (tastefully!) when editing a stylized image to deliver to a client in my Fancy Lady sessions. Kind of fun, no?
